During the interaction, the animal tore off one of Turner’s ears and ripped off part of his scalp. The agent was rushed to the hospital and underwent several surgeries. Fortunately, he was able to recover well after the procedures.
The sanctuary where the incident occurred is managed by Michael Poggi, who has a license to keep the panther, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). However, Poggi was prosecuted for allowing interaction with an extremely dangerous animal and for keeping wild animals in conditions that the FWC deemed unsafe.
