A Wizz Air flight from London to Sofia, Bulgaria, made an emergency landing in Budapest on Nov. 2 after a bomb threat. The aircraft, flight W64302, took off from London Luton Airport at 8:33 a.m., according to flight-tracking website Flightradar.
About two hours after departure, the plane changed course near the border between Bosnia and Serbia. Hungarian fighter jets escorted it as it headed to Budapest.
Hungarian Defense Minister Romulus Ruszin-Szendi said NATO’s air defense service issued an alert, prompting Hungary’s air force to help ensure the aircraft could land. In a statement posted on social media, he said the fighter jet then returned to its base in Kecskemét and police took further action.
Wizz Air told the British newspaper The Independent that the plane landed safely at Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The airline said authorities carried out the necessary security checks on the aircraft and passengers.
