A Russian airstrike on a school used as a shelter and humanitarian aid distribution center in Ukraine killed 29 people, injured five and left at least 48 missing, according to Mykhailo Semikin, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration. The attack struck the village of Komyushuvakha on the night of Monday, November 2.
Semikin confirmed the casualty figures in a post on Telegram. He said the death toll from the Russian airstrikes on Komyushuvakha had risen to 29, with five people injured and 48 considered missing.
Semikin described the scale of the tragedy as devastating, saying each number represented a person and a family that had lost loved ones or was still waiting for news. Rescue teams continued searching through the rubble on Tuesday, November 3.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed condolences to the victims’ families. He said people remained under the debris and that rescue work was continuing as security conditions allowed. Zelensky added that there was a risk of Russian “double-tap” attacks, which he said Russia repeatedly carries out.
