Argentina’s government declined to say whether President Javier Milei helped Brazilian Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro travel to the United States. Government spokesman Adrián Ravier called the question “irrelevant” at a news conference on Tuesday, Nov. 3, saying Bolsonaro’s departure from Brazil and entry into Argentina had been formal. Ravier added that he did not know whether Milei was aware of the senator’s movements.
Bolsonaro, who is under investigation in Brazil in two money-laundering inquiries, traveled with his wife and two daughters. He went to Argentina, then boarded a private jet that stopped in Ecuador before landing in Miami on Oct. 28.
Ravier said Bolsonaro entered Argentina through formal channels and with valid documents, and that the government had no further comment. He said the senator went through customs with proper documentation and was admitted by officials as any other traveler using authorized means. Ravier also said there was no information about an international arrest warrant or request for Bolsonaro.
Although Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes had ordered the seizure of Bolsonaro’s Brazilian passports, published reporting said the senator used an Italian passport to travel from Argentina to the United States. Bolsonaro has held dual citizenship since 2023. He reportedly used the Italian document to board the private jet in Puerto Iguazú without having his passport retained.
