About 12 commercial aircraft in several European countries received bomb threats on Thursday, Nov. 5, prompting the deployment of bomb-disposal specialists and military forces. The incidents included an Aer Lingus Airbus A320 traveling from Dublin, Ireland, to Rome, Italy.
European media reports initially identified incidents involving eight aircraft. Four additional aircraft bound for the Czech Republic also received threats, according to the reports. Authorities were monitoring the incidents.
After the threat, the Aer Lingus plane was diverted to Évreux military air base in France. It was carrying 151 passengers and six crew members. No one was injured, and specialists trained in bomb disposal were sent to inspect the aircraft.
The threats came amid a week of bomb alerts involving commercial flights in Europe. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, at least seven aircraft and a cruise ship were targeted by alerts in different countries. The reports prompted diversions and inspections, as well as temporary disruptions at airports.
