The story of Poppy, a baby who was born prematurely weighing just 510 grams, before completing 30 weeks of gestation, has moved people around the world. Her mother, Lauren Chloe, shared on social media the challenges she faced from the diagnosis of intrauterine growth restriction to the delicate birth of the little one, which required strength and courage to survive.

Lauren said that, during a routine ultrasound at 20 weeks of gestation, doctors noticed that Poppy had growth restriction due to a complication in the umbilical cord, which was limiting blood flow to the baby. This discovery completely changed the course of the pregnancy. “At 26 weeks and 3 days, the doctors decided it would be best for me to be admitted to the hospital full time so that she could be monitored daily. Each day that passed increased her survival rate, so the plan was to keep her as long as possible,” she recalled.

Despite efforts to prolong the pregnancy, the situation worsened. “That night, her heart rate kept dropping and she was delivered by emergency delivery at 11:24pm!” Lauren said, still reeling from the traumatic experience. Poppy’s birth was just the beginning of a long battle. In the first few days of her life, she lost weight, but over time, she slowly began to gain it back. “Poppy lost weight for the first week or two when she was born, but since then she has gained weight every day. It hasn’t always been the best weight gain, but it’s going in the right direction,” she shared, highlighting the progress her daughter has made. Poppy’s journey in the NICU has been closely followed by thousands of people on social media, and Lauren expressed her deep gratitude for the support she has received. “Words cannot express how grateful I am for all the support, messages and comments I have received,” she said.
