Vasanth Kumar Balaramudu, a 47-year-old Indian tourist, died after two helicopters collided during an attempted landing Tuesday morning, Nov. 3, in Periche, Nepal, near Mount Everest. Three other people were injured, according to local authorities.

Video footage shows the helicopters approaching from opposite directions. As one aircraft begins a rapid descent, the other moves in to land. Seconds later, the rotor blades of one helicopter hit the other, causing the collision.

Balaramudu was a passenger on one of the helicopters. Authorities said he died at the scene. The injured people were taken for medical treatment, but no further information about their condition was available.

Mukesh Dangol, director general of Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority, said initial reports suggest a possible communication failure between the pilots. The crash is under investigation.
