French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa said it was targeted in a cyberattack on Wednesday night, Nov. 4, 2026. The bank said hackers diverted about 100 million euros, equivalent to R$615 million, but added that the total amount has not been confirmed.
The bank said the situation is under control, operations are being restored and customer assets were not affected. In a statement, it said it notified the relevant authorities and supervisory bodies after detecting the attack, in accordance with its usual procedures.
According to Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, the hackers used an account belonging to the bank to make transactions with other financial institutions. The transactions enabled them to convert the money into cryptocurrency through specialized platforms.
The bank also said the affected amount does not threaten the group’s financial health. Its teams remain focused on assessing the impact of the attack and strengthening security measures, the statement said.
The incident came days after cryptocurrency exchange Binance was targeted in a theft involving $6.3 billion in crypto assets, described in the report as the largest cryptocurrency theft in history. The FBI attributed that attack to a North Korean hacking group; North Korea denies the accusation.
