Brazilian Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro appeared at an evangelical church service in Florida on Sunday, Nov. 2, alongside his brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, his wife, Fernanda Bolsonaro, and his sister-in-law, Heloísa. It was his first public appearance in the United States since he left Brazil on Oct. 28.

Flávio attended Celeiro Church in Coral Springs, near Miami. The church also has a location in São Paulo and has held services for the local Brazilian community since January. The congregation posted a photo on social media showing pastors José Mauricio and Alice Fernandes with members of the Bolsonaro family. Its caption said the church was honored to welcome the family to Celeiro Florida House of Prayer.

A portion of the service focused on what the sermon described as the unjust imprisonment of Joseph in Egypt, a story in the biblical book of Genesis.

Flávio and his family arrived in the United States at about 10:25 a.m. Brasília time on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Their private plane departed from Argentina, stopped in Ecuador, and continued to Miami, landing at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes had ordered Flávio not to leave Brazil. On Oct. 26, at the request of the Federal Police, Moraes ordered him to surrender his passports. Moraes oversees a case in which Flávio and attorney Willer Tomaz are under investigation for alleged money laundering.

Flávio did not turn in the passports by the court-imposed deadline, and the Federal Police canceled the documents. He left Brazil shortly afterward.
