Renata Díaz, a Brazilian living in the United States, put up posters featuring Brazilian senator Flávio Bolsonaro in New York subway stations and on city streets on Sunday, Nov. 1. The posters used the word “Wanted” and called for Bolsonaro’s deportation, alleging that he was sought for crimes against democracy. Díaz posted social media stories showing herself placing the posters around the city.

Díaz wore a costume and mask while putting up the notices, which displayed Bolsonaro’s photograph. The poster campaign came after Bolsonaro, a former presidential candidate, traveled from Brazil to the United States by private jet following his election defeat to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, according to the report.

In a statement, Díaz said Bolsonaro was “not a political persecuted person” but a criminal who should be deported. She also accused President Donald Trump of interfering in Brazil’s elections and called for people to unite against him, saying Brazil had the world’s largest popular digital army and was ready to fight Trump.

Hours after Díaz shared footage of her route through New York’s subway stations, she began receiving threats on social media from Bolsonaro supporters. Some users contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and called for her arrest, alleging that she had committed a federal crime by spreading false information.

Díaz’s personal information was also shared online, including her home address, professional background and workplace. Bolsonaro supporters also urged members of the Trump administration to condemn her actions.
