Voters went to the polls on Nov. 3 for the 2026 U.S. midterm elections. Preliminary results showed Democrats winning majorities in both the House and Senate, a result described as a significant defeat for President Donald Trump.

An interactive map tracks results by state and congressional district, including changes in closely contested races. It also offers a view of how control of Congress and state governments is taking shape as vote counting continues.

The election cycle includes all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 Senate seats and 36 governor’s offices. The outcome will affect whether Trump can advance his legislative agenda or faces stronger opposition in Congress during the remaining two years of his term.

The election comes amid declining approval for Trump’s administration, which the report linked to the prolonged war with Iran and rising living costs. Voters also considered ballot measures across the country on issues including election administration and abortion access.

The report said Democrats had regained control of both chambers. It also outlined the thresholds for majorities: Democrats would need 51 Senate seats, which it said required gaining four seats while retaining those already won, and at least 218 seats to control the House.
