President Donald Trump has offered Dana White, a former fighter and UFC president, the job of White House press secretary. The position has been vacant since Katie Zacharia left after five days in the role amid criticism of her performance.
Trump announced the offer in a Truth Social post on Saturday, Nov. 7. He said he was offering the job to White and his team, adding that he needed them to defend himself against what he called the “Crazy Left.”
“I’m pleased to announce that the great Dana White, a fighter and tireless warrior, has been offered the position of U.S. press secretary,” Trump wrote. “Dana, please accept the job!” The post presented the role as an offer, not an appointment.
Trump also named several fighters he said would be welcome at the White House as assistants to the new press secretary: Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Kayla Harris and Brazilian fighter Amanda Nunes.
Zacharia’s departure followed criticism of her conduct at a news conference, where she confused Trump’s name with her husband’s, as well as questions about her qualifications. She also could not answer a question about whether the United States had stopped sharing military intelligence with Ukraine during its war with Russia, saying she would need to check before responding.
Zacharia had taken over after Karoline Leavitt left the position in August to focus on her family. Leavitt was named press secretary in January 2025 and became one of the Trump administration’s most prominent public representatives. At 27, she was the youngest person to hold the position in the United States.
