Vice President JD Vance celebrated Halloween on Oct. 31, 2026, with costumes inspired by the “Harry Potter” series. Dressed as Albus Dumbledore, the Hogwarts headmaster, Vance appeared in a social media video holding his newborn son, who was dressed as Dobby, the house-elf.
The video showed Vance on a porch decorated for Halloween. He wore a long silver-gray wig, a pointed hat and a shiny robe with ornate details. His son wore a knitted cap with large ears, referencing Dobby. Introducing the costumes, Vance joked, “Hey, everyone! Vice President Dumbledore here with little Dobby the elf, wishing you a happy Halloween. Have fun, be safe, and eat lots of candy.”
Vance also shared a photo of his family in costumes inspired by the fantasy series. His wife, Usha Vance, wore a black witch’s hat, while the couple’s other children took part in the celebration with costumes including Harry Potter, a spider and a dragon, as well as other references to Hogwarts.
The costumes drew mixed reactions online. On X, some users poked fun at Vance’s outfit and questioned how closely it resembled Dumbledore. One commenter called it “the worst Dumbledore costume I’ve ever seen,” while another said it did not look like the Hogwarts headmaster at all. Responses on Instagram were more positive, with followers praising the family’s costumes and sharing Halloween wishes. One user wrote, “I love it! Happy Halloween to you, Mr. Vice President, and the second family,” while another said, “Happy Halloween! I love all the costumes.”
