A private jet crashed into a trailer park in Greenacres, in southern Florida, on Sunday, November 1, causing a large explosion and a fire that reached at least one residential structure. Authorities described the crash as a “mass-casualty incident,” according to U.S. media reports.

The aircraft was preliminarily identified as a Learjet 60. Preliminary information indicates it may have hit a tree and brought down power lines before crashing into the residential area. Images shared on social media showed a large crater, burning wreckage and a tall column of flames.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North in Palm Beach County. The number of people aboard the jet has not been confirmed, and authorities have not said whether any residents were affected. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue sent crews to the scene, but officials had not released a definitive count of deaths or injuries.

All lanes of Military Trail were closed between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North after the crash. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes. The affected park is in Greenacres, a community near Palm Springs made up primarily of manufactured homes and mobile residences.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash. Preliminary information identifies the aircraft as a Learjet 60, a business jet valued at approximately $2 million. At the time of the crash, the West Palm Beach area had cloudy skies, rain and lightning. Winds were from the east at about 24 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 40 kilometers per hour, according to weather data.
