Brazilian Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro, a former presidential candidate, is scheduled to speak Thursday night, Nov. 5, at an event in Florida attended by allies of U.S. President Donald Trump. The program lists actor Jim Caviezel, who portrays former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in the unreleased biopic “Dark Horse,” as another speaker. Former congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro was also announced.

The event is the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, which brings together representatives of conservative movements from around the world. It is set to take place at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s property, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. local time, or 8 p.m. to midnight in Brasília.

The film has drawn scrutiny after messages between Flávio Bolsonaro and former banker Daniel Vorcaro came to light. In the exchanges, the senator sought a financing agreement of 131 million reais for the production. At least 60 million reais are estimated to have been paid by Vorcaro. The case is under investigation by Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court, with Flávio among those being investigated.

Brazil’s Federal Police traced financial flows indicating that contributions to the film’s production abroad did not come from direct, official institutional sponsorship by Banco Master. Instead, the money moved through intermediary companies and third-party funds, investigators found. Funds were also sent to a U.S. fund called Havengate. The production company has documented the arrival in Brazil of about $2.8 million, approximately 14.8 million reais.

The investigation is examining whether the arrangement involved corruption, money laundering or foreign-exchange evasion. One suspicion is that the money may have been used to support Eduardo Bolsonaro while he was in the United States. Flávio Bolsonaro denies wrongdoing and says the funds were lawful and private.

Flávio has been in the United States since leaving Brazil the previous week, after the Federal Police requested that his passport be seized. A separate investigation involving the senator includes a decision barring him from leaving Brazil. That inquiry concerns suspected money laundering in business dealings related to betting companies and Willer Tomaz, a lawyer and friend of Flávio.
