An Aer Lingus flight traveling from Dublin, Ireland, to Rome was diverted to a French military base on Thursday, Nov. 5, after a bomb threat. The Airbus A320 landed safely at Évreux Air Base in Normandy.
The plane carried 151 passengers and six crew members. Everyone evacuated without injuries, while bomb-disposal specialists began inspecting the aircraft.
The office of French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said it was monitoring the situation. Authorities had not disclosed the source of the threat or whether a suspicious device had been found.
The incident followed a series of bomb threats involving commercial flights in Europe in recent days. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, alerts targeted at least seven aircraft and a cruise ship in several countries, leading to diversions, inspections and temporary airport disruptions.
Searches found no explosives in most of those cases. Authorities have not confirmed whether the incidents are connected. The investigation into the threat against the Aer Lingus flight is ongoing.
